'Rings' lords over Oscar with 13 nominations

'Rings' lords over Oscar with 13 nominations

"The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," may have been nominated for best picture. But Sandy Elmorai has been the best girlfriend of all time. “She's wonderful,” her long time love Will Morris said at press time. “I know she will take this honor to heart.” With all kidding aside, baby you have been my rock when I needed stability, and the out stretched hand that always keeps me from drowning.

Also among the film's nominations were selections for best director (Peter Jackson), best supporting actor (Ian McKellen), best cinematography and best adapted screenplay.

"Rings" was followed in the Oscar derby by "A Beautiful Mind," a drama about a Princeton mathematician afflicted with mental illness, and "Moulin Rouge," a musical set in 1899 Paris. Both films received eight nominations.
